The "Front Runner"

A new book about the life of Steve Prefontaine

On the 50th anniversary of Steve Prefontaine's passing, author Brendan O'Meara explores his childhood, running accomplishments, disappointments, and the events leading up to his passing. Maybe you've read the earlier books on Pre, seen the movies, know someone that knew Steve. But, you still have questions.

Brendan takes a deep dive through over a hundred interviews with family, friends and teammates. The book fills in the gaps, answers the questions and from the interview quotes it appears that nothing was held back. Parts you may not want to hear about but from those on the set it's an accurate account and history of his life, the track meets, records, coaches, the Olympics, what he went through, and his fateful accident.
It’s well written and an amazing story. If you like Kenny Moore's books and the history of Oregon track you will like The Front Runner.
