Portland Track Festival 2025
High School and Middle School Registrations + Advice from Matti Erickson
Editors Note: Another one of our favorite meets in the PTF. It includes the Pro Runners going for qualifying times, + high schools and middle school races. Organized by the amazing team at Portland Track smack dab on the track in the Electric Forest at L&C College.
High School Athletes are invited to participate in the 2025 Portland Track Festival on June 14th & 15th at Lewis and Clark College's Griswold Stadium in Portland, OR. Portland Track will be hosting High School 1500m races accommodating as many heats as necessary (there is no entry standard). You may register here:
The top 15 boys and girls seeds will compete in the Championship heats during the High Performance section of the meet beginning at 5:00pm on June 15th. All other High School 1500m heats will take place during the Open Section of the meet beginning at 3:00pm on June 15th.
Athletes that would like to compete in other events and meet the entry standards for either the Open Section races or High Performance Section races, can register for those here as well.

Middle School Boys and Girls Mile start at 3:00 PM on Sunday.
The middle school races have drawn some good competition over the years. Lexy Halladay, now at BYU ran in the 1500m open as an 8th grader with a time of 4:29.15. Sophie Cantine from Seattle ran the middle school 1500m in 4:34.46.

In 2017, 8th grader Matti Erickson came down from Kootenay Chaos, BC to run the mile in 4:32.47. He is now finishing up his senior year at the University of Oregon. Last week at the Twilight meet we asked him about that middle school race and what his advice may be for the racers this year.

Matti: If I can look back and talk to myself, what, six, seven years ago, I just say stay consistent and stay patient. You know, if you can work hard every single day and know that you are bettering yourself every single day, you will reap the rewards of your effort. You'll be able to pick the fruits of your labor, but it takes time, and you don't know when those moments will happen. But if you just stay consistent, I promise you, those moments will happen. And when they do, they're a lot of fun to celebrate, whether it's a big win or a big PB or just being able to enjoy the little things. Traveling with your parents or your friends, competing at meets, going places that you wouldn't have otherwise gone because of running. So stay consistent and always work hard.
