Sunday is the Youth Runner Mile at the Portland Track Festival. Over the years it has attracted some decent competition. The boys meet record of 4:32.47 is still held by Matti Erickson (U of O) from 2017. In prior years the girls ran a 1500. As an 8th grader, in 2014 Lexy Halladay (BYU) ran 4:29.15 in the open division. Sophie Cantine still has the record for her 2013 8th grade time of 4:34.46. The girls will be running the mile this year.

The boys race includes unattached milers Jake Powell and Kai Blankenship. From the land of Josiah Tostenson and Tayvon Kitchen in Central Point, Oregon comes Ryder White of the Rogue Valley Heat. He ran 4:37.20 at the Oregon Relays, won the Twilight Meet, Oregon MOC, the Stumptown Youth 1500 and has his eyes on a Nike Outdoor title next week. The Bowerman TC has Grayson Warner, Jacob Wacek (been with us at the Youth Runner Camp the last two years), Wyatt Buell, Jack Henry, Sean Lavigne, and Logan Duncan. Lincoln Eames from the Franklin Cluster and Tristan Walter from Whisper Running round out heat one.

Bowerman TC has a full squad in the girls mile including Hannah Mangan who was 3rd in the mile at Oregon Relays and 2nd in the 3000 at Stumptown Youth last weekend. Matilda Hof, Lexis and Samantha Hillberry, Chloe McNair, Harper Fawcett, Shannon Loebner, Avery Brost, and Julie Tongco also with BTC. Sherwood Track’s Nezeya Bugher placed 2nd in both the mile at Oregon Relays and the 3000 at Oregon MOC. Looking forward to seeing Ephie Hagen from Colorado run. (Attended the YR Camp for two years.)

On deck this week will be the Nike Outdoor Nationals and the New Balance Outdoor Nationals. Previews coming up.
